Yesterday, when I was at the police station to look at some booking sheets, a teenage boy walked in and went up to the desk and asked the officer behind the glass to check for any recent accident reports.
His girlfriend was missing, he said. He'd expected to see her a few hours before, but he hadn't heard from her.
The officer found nothing, and the boy thanked him and left.
As the boy was waiting, an adult couple came in and went up to the glass and said they were there to pick up their son.
I used to think airports were the place to be, but now I'd like to sit in a police station lobby for a day.

Two stories that will keep bothering me. I hope the kid's girlfriend is okay. And the same for that son.
Yeah, both of those vignettes are indeed worrisome.

While looking through the sheets, I was only half paying attention to what I was looking for while I waited for the cop to answer. That there'd been no reported accident was good.
And I like to think she was just late or blowing him off. It beats most alternatives.
I've always found the mall an interesting social commentary!
If you think the lobby is interesting, you'd love the holding cell.
I agree with The Chief, the mall is one of my favorite people watching places. I love airports too... but I think hanging around the police station would fray my nerves too much for it to be worth it. It's hard not to worry!
CHIEF & CHRISTIE: The mall is pretty interesting, true. The one thing it doesn't have is the coming &/or going drama you get at an airport.
NEIL: A holding cell would be something...
...Just as a side note: should there not be a law that stipulates that you should not be allowed in a mall if you have more kids than teeth???
Just one of the random thoughts I have when looking at many people in malls.
